Victory at Sea, Vol. 2 continues the powerful musical world created for the celebrated television documentary series that explored the naval history of the Second World War. Richard Rodgers composed the original thematic material, but the album owes much of its character to Robert Russell Bennett, whose orchestration and conducting expanded Rodgers’s themes into dramatic and full bodied symphonic movements. Released by RCA Victor in 1958, the album also appeared during the growing popularity of high fidelity recording, which allowed listeners to experience the music with a clarity and richness that matched its sweeping subject matter.
