Wonderful!
This recording is now only available in CD quality from sony. By HDTT's transfer, the sound is so clear and fresh, unable to believe that this recording was made on 1955, 65 years ago.
Not as good as you would wish...
…given how great that performance of the Piano concerto is. Part of it appears to be mono (mostly the cadenza) and unfortunately, the tape shows its age. Unfortunately, that is to be expected more than sixty years later. I'm not that enthusiast about the ouverture, but it has to do with the work itself not being that great. I don’t think that transfer is a strong improvement compared to the CD release which is very good for both works I am however thankful for its existence given the artistic value of the Piano concerto, which is by far the best I know.
Sorry, sonics not up to scratch
Despite stormingly good performances of these evergreen Tchaikovsky favourites, I'm afraid I can't recommend this because of the sonics, which drive me out of the room. That's a great pity, and doesn't reflect the quality of the Shaded Dogs.
