Rite of Spring
This is my first attempt at downloading digital music and most of the complaints have do do with the format. The recording is of a live performance and has audience noise scattered through the recording. There is also one musical fumble by the woodwind section and Eschenbach's interpretation is more laid back than I care for. My biggest complaint is that the downloaded file is divided into multiple short segments and the 3 players I have tried all have audible weirdness at the segment breaks. I tried Groove Music and Windows media player because they were on my computer. I tried J River at the suggestion of HDTT support. J River is the best but still leaves noticeable gaps or overlaps at the segment transitions. The overlaps result in one segment being chopped at the beginning or end. I have collected vinyl and CD for many years but this is my first excursion into high definition audio so I am not sure what to expect. I bought the 24 bit, 96 kHz PCM FLAC file. I performed in symphonic groups for nearly 30 years and have a pretty good idea how the music should sound.
