Shostakovich Symphony No. 1 - The Age Of Gold
wie von HDTT gewohnt eine exzellent gemasterte Neuauflage eines Klassikers
Shostakovich Symphony No. 1 - The Age Of Gold - Martinon LSO
powerful music — nice recording
Excellent recording and transfer
This is why I keep returning to this site for more. Recommended!
I remember when this LP was released reviewers complained that the sound was ‘lackluster’. This incarnation is clear and well-balanced. The low strings are beautifully present and the winds are crystal clear. The soundstage is wide and well-differentiated, making the frequent divided string parts easy to discern. The percussion is clean, almost dry. One grumble, the fff piano chords do not make the abrupt startling statement I’d have liked to hear. Nonetheless, this is a great performance of the First Symphony.
