Review of recording
People, The Monteux recording of Debussy? Ravel is excellent.Gret sound quality.

Magical
I have loved these recordings since forever, but have never heard them like this. Monteux, one of the few conductors Toscanini openly admired, is worth hearing in anything he does, but his way with French music is totally inimitable, sort of like Rubinstein's Chopin. (Even though both men's favorite composer was Brahms -- who they both also played fabulously). Apart from the air and presence which the engineers captured, all the pieces, especially Rapsodie Espagnole, abound in hitherto inaudible, gossamer touches of cymbals, glockenspiel, bells and other high percussion. Not emphasized, or "hi-fi-efied", but just there. Get this, and marvel. And HDDT, find all the Monteux you can and let us have it . . . Vienna Brahms 2, London Haydn Variations, etc.

Debussy & Ravel Music – Pierre Monteux
beautiful recording. monteuX is an eXcellent interpreter of these two composers
Just lovely
Fine performances, indeed, from these Indian Summer readings of Monteux with the LSO. He knows every bar of this music, and it shows. Decent enough Decca sound, but the peaks in the Rapsodie Espagnole are cruelly compressed. That's the only reason for my not giving this five stars.
