Goodbye 80's Pye CD!!
I played the HDTT transfer of this long treasured performance yesterday for the very first time. I just could not believe my ears with all the glow and shimmer not heard in all previously incarnations. In particular, I will never be playing my very dry sounding Pye CD ever again. One of the greatest Vaughn Williams performances ever comitted to record, and not to be missed.

MY GO-TO VW 2ND!
For many years I was partial to the Bryden Thompson/LSO on Chandos Digital. Then Bob Witrak on this website offered a 24/192 version by Andre Previn and that became my favorite, because it is a fine reading and the high resolution sound carried the day for me. Now this one with John Barbirolli, also in DXD, has seized the prize and run away with it. Barbirolli's interpretation is masterful: choice of tempos, detail versus continuity, phrasing… plus the superb Witrak DXD sound... all make this my "number one number two" from now on.
