Lambert Hendricks and Ross’s The Hottest New Group In Jazz stands as one of the most inventive vocal jazz recordings ever produced. Released in 1959, the album showcases the trio’s groundbreaking use of vocalese, transforming classic instrumental solos into tightly arranged vocal performances of remarkable precision and swing. With Jon Hendricks’s brilliantly crafted lyrics, Dave Lambert’s deep sense of ensemble, and Annie Ross’s effortless phrasing, the group achieves a level of musical interplay that feels both spontaneous and meticulously constructed.
Backed by a subtle and supportive rhythm section, the recording captures a vivid and intimate studio sound typical of Columbia’s late nineteen fifties sessions. The balance places the voices front and center, highlighting the intricate lines and rhythmic drive that define the performance. For collectors and listeners alike, this album remains a landmark of jazz innovation, offering both historical significance and enduring listening appeal.

Components used for Transfer:
This transfer leverages precision analog playback and mastering-grade digital conversion. The signal path begins with a modified Technics 1500 Reel to Reel with Flux Heads, fed through a  Merrill Audio Master MX Tape Head Preamp. The analog signal converts via a Merging Hapi converter, synchronized to an Antelope Audio 10MX atomic clock for temporal accuracy. All components receive isolated power conditioning through a Shunyata Research Everest 8000 with Shunyata Sigma-X power cords, while grounding infrastructure utilizes Shunyata ALTAIRA hubs to minimize noise floor and preserve sonic detail throughout the transfer chain.
