A great recording with tremendous impact - and another excellent HDTT transfer
Howard Hanson's Eastman-Rochester Orchestra recordings for Mercury are legendary. Whether recording his own works (as with him Symphony No. 2, no longer available at HDTT regrettably) or those of other composers as here with the music of Morton Gould, his performances are masterful. Hanson was able to get his orchestra, often the Eastman-Rochester, to rise to another level altogether. And this is what we hear in this excellent new release from HDTT. Hanson and the ERO are simply playing at the top of their game. And the recording quality from the Mercury team is outstanding, delivering the classic Mercury up-front-in-your-face sonics, with exceptional impact, full frequency extension and great dynamic range. It is a recording to savor for its sonics. I happen to also like Morton Gould's music. The transfer is transparent, open, very clean and with a very low noise floor. Bravo HDTT!
