Steinberg's Brahms 3rd
The Steinberg Brahms cyle is surely one of the most important things this site has brought to light. This cyle is fully competitive with anything else out there. I've never heard these performances on CD, but the sound here is splendidly bright and forward.
No comparison to LP rips
I previously had some high quality digital transfers from LP which were pretty good. However, there is no comparison between the clarity and fullness of the HDTT transfers from high quality tape sources and the an LP. My experience is that LP reproduction really struggles on string sections and can get pretty shrill. Not a problem with the HDTT tape transfers. Wonderful in both fidelty and performance!
