Emotional performances, decent mono sound
Great live performances from Furtwangler during wartime, which means emotionally over the top. The recordings, made on early tape machines, are not bad. Just be prepared for 360 degree microphones that pick up hall ambience but also coughs and rustles. These tapes seem to have been in better shape than the 4th and 7th symphonies. Furtwangler Sound processing is very good. Not that hard to listen to, and they don't sound their age, but hardly high fidelity.
Fürtwangler
Considering the age of the recordings, it was well done, I got them just because they're as old as me, silly perhaps, but so be it.
