A Bartok Concerto Treatsure from the golden age vaults !
Since high praise has already been heaped upon this release, it almost seems unnecessary to gush. On the other hand, gushing is due for this widely known golden age stereo release, a time when everything just seems to have come together in excellence. I'm not sure if Geza Anda played that much in the USA. In any case he is as near ideal a soloist as most can imagine, partnered by the uniquely intelligent and acutely powerful Ferenc Fricsay with a Berlin Radio Symphony he had honed to diamantine sparkle. The only thing missing from this release, really, would be the first concerto by the same forces, which has been released on red book PCM disc; but not with the burning force and clarity of HDTT. Bravo, and Thanks !
