Five Star Plus

The added air, space and depth around the orchestra is extraordinary -- and particularly unbelievable as these have been reference audio showpieces since they came out on LP. But no previous issues of these pieces, including CDs mastered by the original engineers, come close to HDTT's transfers. As to the playing, Paray and his magnificent 50's band are self-recommending in this repertoire. There is an inimitable swagger and elan to these performances which has never been bettered. OK HDTT, find anything else by these forces and let's have them, please.

Oh dear...

Poor SQ here, I'm afraid, so I cannot recommend unless you are prepared to listen through this to the undoubtedly fine music-making. A pity.

Paul Paray/Ballet Highlights

This is music that Paul Paray excels in. Coupled with a superb Mercury recording given a new lease of life in this immaculate transfer, this is a CD to cherish.

Paray's French Opera Ballet Highlights a Stunner

Paul Paray's traversal of French opera ballet highlights with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in its DSD128 incarnation is a performance and sonic delight. The "Faust" sequence easily holds its own interpretively and sonically with the Wilkinson-engineered Gibson/Covent Garden performance on RCA, while the remainder of the program is equally stunning. A no-brainer five-star.
