Although the sound is excellent this recording I didn't find as spectacular as the CD version on the original label. Perhaps it was a dull tape that was used, I don't know. Anyway, it's a different sonic perspective so I'm not sorry I bought it!
Probably the best version of Ashkenazy's recordings of this work. The LSO plays well too. The DSD version, however, cannot play the 2nd and 3rd continuously.
This one is easy. Take a justly famed reading of the Rach 3rd concerto, with Ashkenazy, Fistoulari and the LSO all playing out of their skins. Then add some fine Decca sound, and a beautiful HDTT transfer. The result? Beautiful and unmissable.
Great music, great performance, classic recording.
