Review and comment
I ordered both the DSD64 and 192PCM Flac versions of this recording and have been equally satisfied with both. But this was not an "A/B"-style comparison, I listened on consecutive days, so take my opinion for what it's worth. I would venture to say that both these versions hold their own in comparison to the DSD mastered version from Sony Japan (Til and D T only) but that may be hard to find -- and MUCH more expensive. My comment, as advertised, is to say that I am puzzled by HDTT's dropping of another Szell item -- his "live" Mahler Sixth, a revelation for those who care about Szell, and who may have been misled by Sony's very mediocre first two CD masterings of this recording. (Their latest mastering, for both the big Szell box and the SACD edition of his Mahler is vastly better.) The HDTT version had ten 5 star reviews last I checked, but now is nowhere to be found HDTT is keeping very close-lipped about this, after two separate inquiries. They did very kindly send me a replacement copy of the CD, when I informed them of a slight defect in the copy I had previously received. Sad to say, this one is defective as well, but I was able to import it on my Mac and produce a very satisfying 44K/16-bit music file, along with the higher resolution version I already had.

Outstanding performance
George Szell conducted the Cleveland Orchestra in wonderful performances of Don Juan, Till Eulenspiegel, and Death & Transfiguration. The 24/96 FLAC copy I purchased sounds outstanding- both clear & powerful. Recommended.
Fine readings by Szell
HDTT was really generous with this issue; Strauss' three most popular tone poems were offered, none of them is a "filler". The Clevelanders under Szell give vivid, convincing performances. So it should be a "Five-star" issue. What one really misses is the straight presence of acoustic experience, the final stamp of pleasure provided by the sound-stage. The recording shows a digital tinge.
