Liszt - Piano Concertos 1 & 2 / Byron Janis
Simply superb, the sound is excellent. Byron Janis's interpretation is of the highest quality, and so is the orchestra. 5 stars without a doubt.

Great.......but.....
Great music, great playing. The distraction of the tape noise soon ceases to irritate.
Another excellent HDTT transfer
There's no shortage of options for the listener looking for recordings of these works: no less than four versions here on HDTT alone! It's always interesting to hear and compare different interpretations - mainly (for me) musically but also in terms of recording technique and quality. I bought both this and the Katchen / LSO versions, and whilst both are inarguably fine, I have to say that of the two, I mildly prefer this one - both for the energetic (yet not over-fast) performance from the Moscow PO, and also the sound stage. Richter's Philips recording (also available here on HDTT -- and also conducted by Kondrashin, this time with the LSO) also sounds great, but whilst Richter may have the edge on the piano, I feel the LSO slightly lack the verve exhibited here by the Moscow Philharmonic. All in all, a fine reading and recording, highly recommended.

A Excellent Recording, Beautiful Piano Sound
Very pleased with quality of this recording. Piano sounds clear and nicely spread across the L/R channels while the Orchestra did feel behind the Pianist.
