This stunning release captures the legendary Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the absolute pinnacle of their mid-century stereophonic power, documented in a single day at Symphony Hall on March 7, 1960. Renowned for their white-hot intensity and luminous, French-tinted string tone, the BSO delivers a muscular, rhythmically crisp reading of Franz Schubert’s youthful Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major, bursting with exuberant energy and Haydnesque charm. Paired with dramatic excerpts from Ludwig van Beethoven’s only full-length ballet, The Creatures of Prometheus, this classic program crackles with theatrical urgency and lyricism, culminating in the celebratory finale theme that Beethoven famously reused for his Eroica. Sourced from the 15ips tapes, this meticulously restored high-resolution transfer strips away the veil of time, capturing an astonishingly wide soundstage and the legendary natural acoustics of Boston's premier hall for an unforgettable historical listening experience.

Components used for Transfer:
This transfer leverages precision analog playback and mastering-grade digital conversion. The signal path begins with a modified Technics 1500 Reel to Reel with Flux Heads, fed through a  Merrill Audio Master MX Tape Head Preamp. The analog signal is converted via a Merging Hapi converter, synchronized to an Antelope Audio 10MX atomic clock for temporal accuracy. All components receive isolated power conditioning through a Shunyata Research Everest 8000 with Shunyata Sigma-X power cords, while grounding infrastructure utilizes Shunyata ALTAIRA hubs to minimize noise floor and preserve sonic detail throughout the transfer chain.
