Mozart Wind Music - Serenade In C Minor, K.388 & Serenade In B. K. 361
My favorite piece on this recording is the K361, especially The Menuetto where the second familiar portion. These are not my favorite wind pieces but to my ear they are beautifully done and Jack Brymer’s performance was wonderful. This recording suffers less than others I have heard from hiss from the master which is still present which is why I gave 4 rather than 5 starts.
Startling wind band sound in DXD
For decades, I was an amateur classical flutist and played in ensembles with the wind instruments you here on this recording. Thus, I know what they sound like in the real world. To HDTT's credit, and that of the original Westminster recording team, what you hear in this download is that real world sound of these instruments: 12 wind, and one string bass. The DXD sound is so natural and real it's actually startling. Everyone has their own taste in Mozart chamber music interpretations, and this one is just fine with me. I say you can't go wrong! Mozart Wind Serenades (London Wind Soloists / Jack Brymer
Recently I received an order of Mozart Wind Serenades played by the London Wind Soloists. Although the sound is rather good and no harm is done to the music, there are serious errors in the tracks that make things very confusing. The first problem (from which most of the others derive) is the combination of the first Menuetto and the Adagio movements on track 6 instead of on separate tracks. Track 7 is then labeled Adagio but is in fact the second Menuetto (Allegretto). Track 8 is labeled Menuetto (Allegretto) but is actually the Romanze. Tracks 9 and 10 are labeled Romanza and Tema con variazioni, but in fact the two tracks together constitute the Tema con variazioni movement. I hope that HDTT will be able to correct this otherwise enjoyable recording for future purchasers. (Also, when or if they do correct it, I would not mind receiving a new copy!)
