A salute to Lionel Hampton the composer, this collection celebrates the vibraphonist and bandleader's most enduring originals in swinging arrangements by West Coast studio master Maxwell Davis. Recorded in the golden era of the big-band sound, these historic Crown sessions capture Hampton's unmistakable joy—pulsing melody, driving momentum, and pure swing—with breathtaking realism.
Sourced directly from the original analog master tapes, this release delivers stunning audiophile sound quality, revealing the full acoustic warmth, spatial depth, and natural transients of the original Hollywood recordings. Every selection bears the unmistakable stamp of its author, from rollicking flag-wavers built for soaring solo flights to blues-drenched arrangements that showcase remarkable sonic separation and dynamic presence. Transferred with uncompromising fidelity, this restoration brings the ultimate golden-era big-band experience right into your listening room.
This release joins a proud line of Crown Records composer salutes in our catalog, including Compositions Of Count Basie And OthersCompositions Of Duke Ellington And Others, alongside the beautifully conducted soundtrack program The Music Of Peter Gunn – conducted by Ted Nash. Each title has been treated to the same meticulous archival care, preserving the analog magic of the original studio sessions for modern listeners

Components used for Transfer:
This transfer leverages precision analogue playback and mastering-grade digital conversion. The signal path begins with a modified Otari 5050 with Flux Heads, fed through a Merrill Audio Master MX Tape Head Preamp. The analogue signal is converted via a Merging Hapi converter, synchronised to an Antelope Audio 10MX atomic clock for temporal accuracy. All components receive isolated power conditioning through a Shunyata Research Everest 8000 with Shunyata Sigma-X power cords, while grounding infrastructure utilises Shunyata ALTAIRA hubs to minimise noise floor and preserve sonic detail throughout the transfer chain.
