Dvořák New World Symphony - Fritz Reiner Chicago Symphony
Although this celebrated performance is rightly regarded as one of the crown jewels of the RCA Living Stereo catalog, its recorded sound is not generally considered among the very finest examples of the series. Compared with some of the label's most spectacular orchestral recordings, the acoustics of Orchestra Hall and the original recording can sound slightly closed in and less expansive. For this release, subtle top-end equalization has been carefully applied to open up the sound, revealing greater air, clarity, and orchestral detail while remaining faithful to the character of the original recording. Combined with Lewis Layton's superb engineering, Fritz Reiner's commanding interpretation, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's breathtaking precision, the result remains an essential Living Stereo recording. This transfer leverages precision analog playback and mastering-grade digital conversion. The signal path begins with a modified Studer A810 with Flux Heads, fed through a Merrill Audio Master MX Tape Head Preamp. The analog signal is converted via a Merging Hapi converter, synchronized to an Antelope Audio 10MX atomic clock for temporal accuracy. All components receive isolated power conditioning through a Shunyata Research Everest 8000 with Shunyata Sigma-X power cords, while grounding infrastructure utilizes Shunyata ALTAIRA hubs to minimize noise floor and preserve sonic detail throughout the transfer chain.
