The Kertesz recordings of the Dvorak symphonies have long set the standard for the works and this transfer raises the bar even further.
Ketersz's 1960's Dvorak symphonic cycle with the LSO remains unsurpassed to this day. This 8th is exemplary in interpretation and playing. However, the sound is a bit roughened, particularly in high strings and tutti. There is also an unpleasant sound glitch in the final bar or so, when the sound collapses to an unpleasant distorted mono. This should have been fixed! If that was a fault with the tape, maybe a good copy of the superb vinyl might perhaps have been a better bet.
