Straight to Heaven
A splendidly updated, rich and honest transfer of a wonderful classic. The soloists, the likes of which are not to be heard today, are breathtaking. Yet another outstanding HDTT release.

A great performance, an excellent release
I will second Robert E.'s excellent comments about this recording. With a superlative cast of soloists, including Maureen Forrester, George London, and Richard Tucker, this is a performance of Verdi's famous Requiem to grab one's attention. While I am hugely fond of Reiner's great performance for RCA, this is a performance that could yet become my favorite. The soloist are outstanding, the chorus is marvelous, alert and alive, and the capture of the huge orchestral bass drum will drive your woofers crazy. It is a recording to turn up LOUD and then revel in the sound of it.

Possibly the best work Ormandy has done.
This is one of those recordings that flew just under the radar. That's unfortunate because it's exquisitely performed. Vibrant soloists, masterful and inspiring choral singing, and the legendary sound of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Generally, I'm not a big Ormandy fan, but this one is exceptional. I remember the reviews from the performances and they were effusive. There was an earlier re-issue by Columbia, but the quality was poor. This one is not to be missed. It could become your favorite performance. Highly recommended without reservation.
