Maxine Sullivan sings Music By Fats Waller & Others
Much more Clarity than in the CD that I own. Highly recommended. It may be more rough around the edges but that makes it much more like a life performance and not a studio album produced to death.
1950's meets the 1940's
Having recently listened to Peggy Lee's last recording I was struck by the similarity in phrasing. Both use the power of positive singing. Both end their lines in a way that the sound continues. This recording has depth as well as left/right location. Partly thanks I'm sure to HDTT

Superb recording, musically excellent too
The list of female American jazz vocalists from the mid 20th Century is a long and impressive one, and I have to confess that until I bought this recording from HDTT, I'd not heard of Maxine Sullivan. More fool me - here she is, singing much well-known repertoire in a beautiful mid-50's stereo recording, immaculately transferred as ever. She may not be as distinctive as say Ella or Billie (for better as well as worse) and not quite as exceptional as Sarah Vaughan, but definitely worthy of a place in the canon of this era. Lovely - highly recommended - and I hope HDTT will find more of her catalogue for us!
