I cannot compare it to a CD of vinyl but it defintely sounds good for that era.

Kid Ory Plays W.C. Handy

What a delight this album is. Some real dixieland swing. The quality is wonderful with a wide soundstage and lots of detail. The musician's comments when shouting encouragement to Kid Ory were clearly audible. Another quality offering by HDTT.

That was a breeze to discover these nice recordings, made in the late 50's and sounding incredibly! Go for them if you like the genre.

Beyond anything

Okay, here is what has to be, in many ways, the greatest recording ever made. I played it tonight thru the Sony HAP Z1-ES at close to 100 dB SPL and it challenges the assumption that we can’t realistically reproduce the sound of a big band in our homes. What engineers did this? What microphones were used? How could they possibly capture all these instruments and the hall, in this swinging live performance, so completely? Not a TRACE of overload. It’s as if aliens landed in San Francisco in 1958 to gather a piece of our jazz culture using systems of infinite bandwidth and headroom.
