This is a fabulous performance of the Concert de Aranjuez, in classic early Decca sound. Sonically, some would argue the front/back depth between the soloist and orchestra to be excessive but balance is always problematical in this piece - even performed live - so this is perfectly legitimate, I feel. Rodrigo only wrote 3 or 4 pieces that bear repeat listening. Regretfully, the accompanying harp serenade is not one of them. Never mind, you can't win them all! The surprising thing in this piece is that, despite the DGG source - normally a guarantee of third-rate over-miked sonics - it all sounds pretty good.
