Not to be missed

If you enjoy Oscar Peterson and his trio as much as I do, this live performance recording for broadcast is not to be missed. The performances are top drawer Oscar Peterson Trio. Don't mistake Peterson's vocalizations in the low level background for audience chatter, it's just him vocalizing with his playing. IPI has done a very nice job transferring this tape. Very clean, very low noise floor. The DSD256 transfer sounds like its giving us everything the tape has to offer.

The Oscar Peterson Trio - 17 March 1962

A great album with period analog sound and a very low noise floor. IPI has done a great job with this mono recording. There is so much to hear and the sound stage is so wide that it sounds like a live recording.

Genre: Jazz - Combos
Vendor: International Phonograph, Inc.

Description:

Artist(s): Oscar Peterson: piano
Ray Brown: acoustic bass
Ed Thigpen: drums

Recording Info: Recorded 17 March 1962 at the Olympia Theatre, Paris France onto a Telefunken MS tape recorder. Engineering Claude Boquet or Bill Dubois
This is a Monophonic Recording

Mr. Peterson needs no introduction to listeners. Here he plays in concert at Paris, France, with Ed Thigpen on drums and Ray Brown on bass. The interaction between them is at times stunning. Not that Oscar needs prodding, but at times the bass and drums are like a locomotive, driving the proceedings forward. Oscar’s playing here is gorgeous and sometimes astounding. I just love this tape. Oscar plays all well-known tunes, some from West Side Story. His ballad rendition of Young And Foolish is simply gorgeous -- this is just world-class jazz. The recording is mono but lovely, and natural and live sounding. Recorded for Paris radio
