Mingus and Company at their best. First of Columbia
If you were a Mingus fan as I am he won’t be disappointed in the transfer as it sounds as good as the two track master

Of all versions my CHOICE
Amazing amazing and amazing... no blow up of instruments like some of the ‘fancy’ releases did... sounds organic and highlights the sense of a close jazz sextet ! Superb by all means !

Marred masterpiece
Ah Um, is one of Mingus' most popular records, largely due to the funky gospel number. In fact, the lp touches on many musical genres and periods of black American music. However, this version if marred by awful balance. Although one hears Mingus' bass and Richmond's drums clearly, the piano seems to be in a different room. At times the horns are also under recorded. How could this lousy balance have got through any kind of testing? Then, I found this with a George Russell alubm, too.

I thought the MoFi was king..
Until I heard this. This is an incredible source and a great master. I'm glad to add it to my collection and it is my main digital source now, with the MoFi 45rpm vinyl as my main analog source. It says it was mastered in DSD 256 .. DSD 128 is the highest offered to sale and it sounds amazing, so I'll take it!
