Bruckner's 9th Four Movement Edition - Rozhdestvensky

This is an excellent remastered recording. High resolution sound is astounding. Listening with Sennheiser HD 600 headphones, I could easily hear a great difference between the FLAC 44.1 kHz/16 bit recording available on Tidal and this one. A worthwhile purchase!

Was it neccessary?

As with Derek´s "reconstruction" of Mahler´s Symphony No. 10 or Mozart´s Requiem, it isn´t clear enough for me this "extended version" of Bruckner´s 9th achieves anything beyond the mere curiosity and extended listening time. No matter how deep the musicologist criteria has been, the result cannot be more than a conjecture conditioned by the own musical preconceptions of the "reconstructor". This is specially relevant in the "Bruckner´s case". Anyone knows the dubiousness of Bruckner about his work and his almost sick and constant revision of it. So, reconstructing the 4th movement of this Symphony from fragments we´ll never know if they will be used in the finale is, at least, presumptuous. On the other hand, Rohzdetvensky´s performance (of the "true" part, I mean) is deeply moving, among the best (putting apart Celibidache´s versions, of course). The recording quality is truthful to the original analog tape, what is, I think, the best that can be expected from HDTT.
