Benny Goodman Live Jazz Solos & Arnold Concerto IPI

Benny Goodman needs no introduction nor any accolades.  His unrivaled position in American music is legendary.  IPI was in Luxembourg in 1980, recording the classical music festival that took place every year.  Fortuitously, Mr. Goodman heard one of our recordings of another performer at the festival and requested a recording of his jazz solos and Malcolm Arnold’s Clarinet Concerto. The result is this tape, capturing the huge ambient church sound and a live audience (well over 1000 strong), complete with coughs, shuffling sounds, camera clicks, etc. Mr. Goodman was thrilled with the sound on the tape and said it captured the live event perfectly.  The recording used two B&K Omnidirectional mics about 8 feet in front and above the orchestra. A recording of historical significance.  Note: there was not enough room on the tape for the final movement of the Arnold Concerto.

Recorded 14/15 June 1980 in the Bassilque of Echternach, Luxembourg by
Jonathan Horwich. Originally recorded at 30 ips using two B&K omnidirectional
instrument microphones and a Levinson/Studer A-80 MLS tape
