Captured between 1959 and 1962 in Paris by French EMI / HMV, these legendary stereo recordings showcase conductor André Cluytens and the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in definitive interpretations of Maurice Ravel's orchestral and piano masterpieces. Rather than applying a heavy, post-Romantic gloss, Cluytens and his collaborators approach Ravel with an uncompromising architectural rigour, striking a rare balance between sensuous impressionistic colour and crystalline neoclassical precision. The ensemble's historic, native instrumental timbre, characterised by bright, penetrating woodwinds and wide-bore brass, provides an authentic French tonal palette that lets Ravel's intricate voicings cut through with sparkling clarity across works like Le Tombeau de Couperin, the Pavane pour une Infante Défunte, and Alborada del Gracioso.
The program culminates with the monumental Concerto for the Left Hand in D major, featuring the celebrated French pianist Samson François. Commissioned by the one-armed pianist Paul Wittgenstein, the concerto becomes a dark, dramatic canvas blending jazz-infused idioms with a brooding, martial heroism. François attacks the keyboard with ferocious power and spontaneity, navigating jagged polyrhythms and cascading cadenzas with thrilling improvisation. Cluytens mirrors this volatility by grounding the orchestral accompaniment in deep, ominous textures while maintaining a lean, chamber-like transparency, creating an enduring benchmark of French performance tradition.

This transfer leverages precision analogue playback and mastering-grade digital conversion. The signal path begins with an extensively modified Otai 5050 Reel to Reel with Flux Heads, fed through a  Merrill Audio Master MX Tape Head Preamp. The analogue signal is converted via a Merging Hapi converter, synchronised to an Antelope Audio 10MX atomic clock for temporal accuracy. All components receive isolated power conditioning through a Shunyata Research Everest 8000 with Shunyata Sigma-X power cords, while grounding infrastructure utilises Shunyata ALTAIRA hubs to minimise noise floor and preserve sonic detail throughout the transfer chain.

then the DXD edited master was used to generate the final DSD files using
Merging Technologies Album Publishing.
DXD (352.8KHz 24/32 bit PCM) is one of the best and least destructive formats for post-processing DSD originated digital recordings
