"String Along with Basie" is an intriguing entry in Count Basie's discography, representing a departure from his usual big band style by incorporating a string section, which added a different texture to his music.
The album was conceived as a way to merge the world of jazz with orchestral strings, an idea that was quite popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Basie’s take on this concept was to maintain his signature swing while adding the lushness of strings to the arrangements.
