Salt and Pepper by Sonny Stitt and Paul Gonsalves is a prime example of a Golden Age jazz blowing session, capturing two major tenor saxophone voices in direct, high-level musical conversation. The album was recorded on September 5, 1963, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and engineered by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder, whose warm yet detailed recording style became a hallmark of modern jazz recordings. It was later released on Impulse! Records with producer Bob Thiele at the helm.
