Get this for Gerard Souzay's excellent singing, plus great early Decca sound
The sound quality captured by Decca recording engineer Roy Wallace in this 1960 recording is top notch, with an almost perfect capture of the soloists and choir. And HDTT provides an excellent Pure DSD256 transfer. While there are perhaps other performances that I would place higher on my list of preferred performances (e.g., John Rutter's supremely musical, beautifully balanced reading on Collegium), this recording is a pleasure to have in my library notwithstanding its rather over-reverential pacing. And Gerard Souzay sings the baritone part most beautifully.
One of best recording for Faure's Requiem
Cluytens's recording is famous for Faure's Requiem. I think that this Ansermet's recording has same value. Especially, chorus is sprendid. Both perfomance and Decca's sound is suitable to listen by DSD256.
Excellent recording
