Steinberg rarely disappoints. This is a completely convincing interpretation from beginning to end. The powerful impetus propels the music forward, and the listener has no choice but to follow along. What a contrast to the many yawning performances that make the symphony seem way too long. Also seems to be a new addition to Steinberg's recorded repertoire. Sound is decent but not great. Still, cannot recommend highly enough.
Thanks to HDTT for seeking this out and to Mr. Johnsen for making it available. The sound is typically outstanding. That said, I find Steinberg's conducting of this symphony to be distractingly mechanical and lacking the rhythmic pulse necessary to propel it forward in a musical way.
