These two recording come up like fresh paint, as if they were recorded yesterday. A tremendous transfer of the best interpretation of Tchaikovsky 6 that i know and one of the finest Romeo And Juliet's that one is ever likely to hear. Kondrashin with his own orchestra the Moscow Philharmonic were the best orchestra in the USSR at that time. They would not remain that way for long, players were lured away to other orchestras with better salaries and the quality was allowed to diminish. Kondrashin was left to do the best he could. He would eventually defect in 1978, while on tour in Amsterdam. He died suddenly in 1981, aged just 67, having just been appointed as chief conductor of the Symphonie Orchestra des Bayerische Rundfunks. What a great loss. He was one of the greatest conductors that the Soviet Union ever produced. This is an outstanding issue of a great performance.
