It is a magnificent recording in every aspect. It is not only about the superb performance (who has said tha Karajan was a “dull” conductor? :O He has perceived in a very deep manner Shostakovich motivation and feelings) but also about the sound. What a marvelous recording!! I used it as the “premiere” of my new DAC, and the results could not be more satisfying. there is such a detail in every instrument, every note, It is hard to believe that we are in a live recording, and the spacing and spatial sceneraio is really rich and detailed. A complete must.
This is one of Karajan's greatest recordings. Powerful, dramatic and superbly played. The recording has both warmth and tremendous impact when required, and HDTT's transfer is as good as one has come to expect.
UNA VERSIONE DI QUESTA STRAORDINARIA SINFONIA IMMANCABILE. AL CONTEMPO VELOCE ED ELEGANTE. REGISTRAZIONE CON GRANDE DINAMICA E RICCHEZZA TONALE.
It is an old recording, but the performance is powerful. I had a good feeling.
Excellent remastering as usual and a must-have companion piece to Karajan's live and incredibly intense performance of the same in Moscow in 1968 (Melodiya), well worth searching out. To sit on the shelves alongside HDTT's remastered and indespensible 1954 live recording by Mravinsky with the Leningrad Philharmonic.
